I know dark clouds will gather around me I know my path is hard and steep But golden light lies just beyond me Where weary eyes no more will weep I'm going home to see my father And all the rest who've gone on I'm only going further onward I'm only going to my home I am a poor, wayfaring stranger Traveling through this world of woe I long to find my home in Nature And the land toward which I go I'm going home to see my mother And all the rest who've gone on I'm only going further onward I'm only going to my home I'll soon be free from every trial My body asleep as the soul departs Burning on as a roaring fire To long for home nevermore I'm going home to see my brother And all the rest who've gone on I'm only going further onward I'm only going to my home I'm going home I know dark clouds will gather around me I know my path is hard and steep But golden light lies just beyond me Where weary eyes no more will weep I'm going home to see my sister And all the rest who've gone on I'm only going further onward I'm only going to my home

This song is a cover of the American folk standard of the same name, with famous renditions being done by artists such as Burl Ives, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash and Joan Baez.

While some may wonder why a Native American artist would cover a famous country/folk spiritual, I believe that there is beauty and strength in turning someone else's artistic interpretation and intent into form with your own. I also have a great respect for the aforementioned artists and the music that they helped to create.

I've also altered some of the lyrics to fit my own intentions more clearly, as is often done with American folk standards in order to help each artist's rendition stand out from another's. The original song is about the hardships of life and the light at the end of the tunnel that heaven represents. While that interpretation is retained in this version, now it is just as much about a longing to return to Nature and a longing for a physical and emotional place to call home, as so many Indigenous people have had theirs taken from them.
